Pirates of the Caribbean 5 Posters Show Old & New Heroes

February 21, 2017

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is set for a spring release date, and Disney has begun unveiling the tie-in products that will be released alongside the film as a way to build hype for the upcoming film.

Most of the marketing so far has focused on Javier Bardem’s villainous Salazar, who is set to take his place alongside Davy Jones as a villain worthy of doing battle with Disney’s favorite pirate. But a series of new posters turn the attention and spotlight back to Captain Jack, who has his own poster as well as the most prominent positions in group shots. This is not surprising, given that Depp’s lovable rogue became a fan favorite following the release of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl in 2003. Depp earned an Oscar nomination for the film, and since then has been the glue holding the franchise together.

NowTrends International has revealed three posters that be released in the spring. The posters feature returning favorites Sparrow and Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), as well as new characters such as Bardem’s Captain Salazar, Brendon Thwaites’ Henry, and Kaya Scodelario’s Carina Smith. The images are fairly standard among this brand of marketing, as their collage arrangement is intended to highlight the new and returning characters as easily as possible for potential audience members.

Noticeably absent from the lineup is Orlando Bloom’s Will Turner, who is set to make a return in the film. News of Bloom’s return to the Pirates franchise was confirmed several months ago. Will Turner was a key role in the original three films, and will no doubt be just as important in Dead Men Tell No Tales, yet so far all that’s been revealed of his character is a brief glimpse from the film’s Super Bowl trailer. It is likely that Disney wants to preserve some of the mystery around Will’s return and is keeping his character out of the spotlight until closer to the film’s release.

The posters are just the tip of the extensive product line Disney has designed for the film. Once the marketing for Beauty and the Beast dies down, expect everything Disney produces until Memorial Day to have the Pirates logo on it. The final theatrical poster has yet to be revealed as well, so keep an eye on the horizon for more images of Jack and his band of heroes and villains.
